Breakfast Smoothie

photo 1For the past two years, I’ve had a smoothie each morning for breakfast. I’m not the best about eating real food before noon so a smoothie works really great for me as it’s easy to throw together before I head out for work and I drink it at my desk while checking my email in the morning. I’m very much a creature of habit and had enjoyed the same smoothie (orange juice, soy yogurt, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, a liquid vitamin blend and protein powder) for the past year or so. Recently I had to change-up the formula when Whole Soy & Co. products disappeared from all grocery store shelves when their production facility suddenly closed its doors. I’m not a fan of the almond or coconut based yogurt so I omitted the yogurt and added some new items to the mix. I’m very happy with the changes and love the new smoothie!

Here’s are the ingredients:photo 2
1/2 cup orange juice
1/2 cup carrot juice
1/4 cup unsweetened apple sauce
1/4 cup frozen blueberries
1/4 cup frozen raspberries
1/4 cup frozen strawberries (usually 3-5 berries depending on size)
2 TBSP Alive Max Potency liquid multi-vitamin
1 scoop NitroFusion vanilla protein powder

Put all the ingredients into your blender in the order listed and blend on high for a minute.
Yields about 18-20 oz and is less than 400 calories.

    It’s always nice to see banana free smoothies, my BFF Kim is allergic to them, so I’ll have to point her to this page for inspiration. I do smoothies a lot too. Mine are usually pretty similar, but i switch out the frozen fruit. Today was 11/2 frozen bananas, frozen raspberries and cherries, a scoop of vanilla vega sport, some multii green powder and water. Sometimes i add cacao powder or PB2 and kale or frozen spinach. I want to start making some with frozen broccoli, but I never remember when I’m out shopping.

      I hate hate hate bananas in smoothies. I forgot to mention that above, so I’m always seeing things that sound good but are ruined with bananas. I haven’t tried using avocado instead. I got that 40 Days of Green Smoothies book you blogged about a while back but I never pushed myself to do it. Maybe that will be my next month-ish long thing after MoFo is over.

    Holy crap that’s a huge thing of not obviously vegan protein powder – I like it! Is it yummy?

    My favorite protein powder containing smoothie is 1 cup soy milk, 1 cup frozen blueberries, 1-2 bananas, 2 tbsp nutribiotic vanilla rice protein powder. I love smoothies.

      Yeah, my boyfriend is a personal trainer so he buys the hugest amount of protein powder possible. It is yummy but very vanilla-y which I like but I could see others not being into. The same company also has what seems like the exact same product labeled as PlantFusion which I think is a little more obviously vegan.
